more from Grandma’s garden

i am amazed at the beauty that my Grandma has been able to produce for years in such rocky soil. it would have been wondrous to see what she could have done with good soil. she told me that when she first started her garden here back in the 70’s – she worked and worked to clear the rocks out of the first 4-6″ of dirt. but the rocks just keep rising to the surface. my uncle says they must be affected less by gravity, since they are always rising to the surface.

i said “grandma, there are some flowers out there that look like crocuses, what are they?” she responded, “they are winter crocuses”.

pincushion protea

when in pacific grove i saw  a pincushion protea  growing. i’ve seen them in florist shops but not in nature before.

ferns and shadows

i created these fern plantings for centerpieces for my cousin’s wedding this weekend. and as i took pictures, i was intrigued by the shadows  on the tablecloths.

here and there a tawny brook prattled out from among the under wood and lost itself again in the ferns and brambles upon the further side. save the dull piping of insects and the sough of the leaves, there was silence everywhere~ the sweet restful silence of nature. ~ arthur conan doyle, sr

a friend’s garden

i wandered though a friend’s garden ~ and what did i see…

in my garden there is a large place for sentiment.  my garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams.

the thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful.  ~ abram l. urban

everything is happy

look at the trees, look at the birds, look at the clouds, look at the stars… and if you have eyes you will be able to see that the whole existence is joyful.  everything is simply happy.  trees are happy for no reason; they are not going to become prime ministers or presidents and they are not going to become rich and they will never have any bank balance.  look at the flowers – for no reason.  it is simply unbelievable how happy flowers are.  ~ osho

i love the funkiness of this flowering succulent ~ God sure must have had a sense of humor…

my father just planted these berry vines and they are already flowering

and the beauty of the sunset
