autumn mornings: sunshine and crisp air, birds and calmness, year’s end and day’s beginnings. ~ terri guillemets
i created these fern plantings for centerpieces for my cousin’s wedding this weekend. and as i took pictures, i was intrigued by the shadows on the tablecloths.
here and there a tawny brook prattled out from among the under wood and lost itself again in the ferns and brambles upon the further side. save the dull piping of insects and the sough of the leaves, there was silence everywhere~ the sweet restful silence of nature. ~ arthur conan doyle, sr
count your nights by stars, not shadows; count your life with smiles, not tears. ~ italian proverb
every man carries with him through life a mirror, as unique and impossible to get rid of as his shadow. ~ w.h. auden, the dyer’s hand
we cast a shadow on something wherever we stand, and it is no good moving from place to place to save things; because the shadow always follows. choose a place where you won’t do harm – yes, choose a place where you won’t do very much harm, and stand in it for all you are worth, facing the sunshine. ~ e.m. forster, a room with a view
